An Interdisciplinary Research Institute That Enhances the Urban Land Grant University’s Mission of Teaching, Research & Service

The Center for Social Development and Education (CSDE) is a multidisciplinary research and training institute whose mission is to promote the social development of children with disabilities and increase their success in school and the community. Unique to CSDE’s mission is the value it places on translating research to practice.

For more than 40 years, CSDE’s research findings have guided the development of evidence-based instructional curricula and graduate training programs.

Operating through the center, Camp Shriver at the University of Massachusetts Boston welcomes children with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities to a free inclusive summer sports camp each summer.

New for 2023, Camp Shriver will be expanded with the Summer Stars program, welcoming children ages 7-8, entering the second grade, with and without behavioral, emotional, and/or learning challenges (e.g., ADHD).
